We're going on an Acorn Hunt!

I have had so much fun browsing through everyone's Fall/Halloween decorations. I came across PB Decor Ideas over at A Pumpkin and A Princess and was inspired to make my own.

The kids had picked up some acorns in the yard the other day so I knew this would be something they would like to help me with.

At first Big Bro seemed much more excited to collect acorns then Little Sis but after he had collected a few, he was done with it.

Big Bro caught a blurry, but cute picture of Me and Little Sis

This was the final product. I will probably add a few other things and was looking for more of Fall colors for the ribbon but this will have to do for now. We have lots of acorns that are left over as well. Any suggestions of what to do with those?

The glass vases I found at Dollar Tree for $1 each. The candles that are in the smaller vases came in a 5 pack for $1 and are Green Tea spice scented. They actually smell pretty good.

I know my picture isn't nearly as good as the natural lighting on the PB one, but I thought it turned out the acorns turned out pretty cute. The kids also enjoyed helping on this one.

  1. I did this before. It looks really cute and is a cheap decorating alternative but just keep an eye on it. Creatures like to hide in them and then you bring it into the house. I found out the hard way. I thought about baking them to kill anything that could be inside the next time I try it.

  2. I thought about that also. I'll keep a check on it. Thanks for the heads up. :)

  3. This is such a pretty idea - I especially like how you did the votives. Wish we had acorns lying around on the ground out here...we just get palm fronds!

  4. I'm a new follower (found you on Design it Chic's blog hop). Just wanted to mention that I will probably visit your blog more often if the music doesn't launch itself automatically (I had no idea my volume was up that high and I nearly fell off my chair).

  5. Karen, thanks for checking me out! Your comment made me laugh, only because I've reacted the same way on other sites before. I will probably keep it on auto launch just because I enjoy it but I hope you will continue to visit.

  8. Very cute. I was thinking about doing this too. But I heard some horror stories about little critters hatching out of them (apparently buggies like to lay eggs in those). So I bought faux acorns from a dollar store. Maybe you could bake them or freeze them to kill anything that might be inhabiting them?

  9. Thanks for sharing with us at A Crafty Soiree! I love using nature in decorating. We picked up a bunch of acorns too but I've yet to figure out how to display them. This is a great idea! Please join us next time too!
